NEC Corp Stock (6701): Price, Board Talking Points and Outlook

By: WEEX|2026/07/19 18:46:18

NEC Corp (TSE: 6701) is a major Japanese IT-services and social-infrastructure company. Its operating margin roughly doubled in two years (about 5.4% to about 10.0%), and FY3/2026 delivered a record net profit of ¥270.2 billion. That margin story carried the stock to a peak near ¥6,074 in November 2025, but H1-2026 combined a "death of SaaS" software sell-off with the AI/semiconductor correction to cut it about 41% before it rebounded off a June low. Its "cotomi" LLM and AI-agent push are also in focus. This page summarizes the board talking points as of July 2026, the business and AI position, and how to read the stock.

Board and community talking points

NEC's board text is not directly fetchable, so the themes below are the retail concerns as reported in the press and observed around the board as of July 2026. The name is unusual in holding a strong bull case and a sharp bear case at once.

  • A "record profit, IT-bubble high in view" comeback — and a SaaS-death slump. Toyo Keizai's Shikiho framed NEC on February 10, 2026 as a redemption story — record earnings after years of losses, its old IT-bubble-era high back in view. Weeks later it was cited among software names in the "death of SaaS" de-rating (Shikiho, February 24, 2026), a reported driver of the H1-2026 fall.
  • An economic-security and security angle. NEC operates public, defense and security businesses and is at times covered as an economic-security-related name. This page does not take a view on policy; it notes the segment and the market theme factually only.
  • These are observed and press-reported views, not our recommendation.

The business and the AI/semiconductor cycle

NEC Corporation (6701) trades on the TSE Prime market in the electrical-equipment sector, led by President and CEO Takayuki Morita (since April 2021). Market cap is near ¥5.9 trillion, with a forward P/E around 21.4x, a PBR of 2.63x and ROE of 12.3%. The business centers on IT services and systems integration (the profit driver), plus public infrastructure, networks (the IOWN initiative), biometrics ("Bio-IDiom"), and space, defense and security. Its domestic satellite share is reported at around 70%.

The re-rating is a margin story. Revenue was roughly flat (¥3,582.7 billion in FY3/2026), but the operating margin doubled from about 5.4% to about 10.0% in two years, with record net profit of ¥270.2 billion. FY3/2027 guidance puts revenue roughly flat near ¥3,500 billion. The dividend is guided from ¥38 to ¥40 per share, a yield around 0.92% — a growth/re-rating profile.

The AI core is "cotomi," NEC's proprietary Japanese-specialized LLM, first announced in December 2023, with cotomi Pro/Light and v2 in 2024 and the "cotomi Act" agent in September 2025. "BluStellar," the value-creation model that packages these offerings, is repeatedly cited as an earnings driver, and the AI business is shifting toward AI agents. On May 13, 2026 NEC unveiled its "2030 mid-term management plan": become an "AI Native Company," more than double profit, reach a 15%-plus operating margin, and lift the overseas-profit ratio to about 50% — the anchor for the bull scenario.

How to read the stock

NEC did a 1-to-5 split in March 2025, so every price here is split-adjusted. The shares rose from about ¥1,318 in July 2023 to a closing peak near ¥6,074 on November 21, 2025 (52-week high ¥6,194). Then a "death of SaaS" sell-off plus the AI/semiconductor correction drove them to a 52-week low of ¥3,606 in Q2 — about 41% peak-to-trough. The stock bottomed around mid-June (¥3,847 on June 15) and recovered to ¥4,354 at the July 17 close. Bulls point to record profit and the 2030 plan's margin runway (profit-doubling, 15%-plus margin, ~50% overseas), cotomi/BluStellar and AI agents, and world-class biometrics. Bears note a rebound after a ~41% fall, SaaS/AI de-rating risk, public and defense orders that depend on policy and budgets, flat revenue, and AI-native execution risk. This page sets no price target. Q1 (April-June) results are expected in late July or early August 2026 (confirm the date on NEC IR).

Trading AI-theme exposure on WEEX

The AI theme NEC is pursuing shows up globally across AI names. To own NEC shares themselves, the standard route is a Japanese brokerage account. On WEEX you can instead trade USDT-M perpetual futures referencing AI names: contracts referencing Anthropic (ANTHROPICUSDT, up to 20x) and OpenAI (OPENAIUSDT, up to 50x) both listed on April 14, 2026, alongside perpetual futures referencing AI names such as Palantir (PLTR), Nebius (NBIS) and Zhipu (Z.ai). Anthropic and OpenAI are privately held; these are not the shares themselves but derivatives (perpetual futures) that track an exchange-published price index. Perpetual futures are leveraged, move sharply, and can produce losses exceeding your initial margin, so trade only with a full understanding of the risks. See the WEEX market listings. WEEX does not offer Japanese single stocks or any proxy for them, including NEC or any tokenized version of it; it offers crypto assets and derivatives like these.
