FRONTEO Stock (2158): Price, Board Talking Points and Outlook

By: WEEX|2026/07/19 18:41:49

FRONTEO (TSE: 2158) is a Japanese AI company whose proprietary natural-language engine "KIBIT" anchors a business spanning legal tech (investigations and e-discovery), AI drug discovery and medical AI, and economic-security AI (it was formerly UBIC, Inc., renamed FRONTEO in 2016). FY3/2026 was a strong year of rising revenue and profit, but the company guides the next year down on both, and balance-sheet health has become the main board concern. The stock rebounded from a June 11 low of ¥543 into mid-July (¥627 at the July 17 close), one of the few "rebounders" during the July sector correction. This page summarizes the board talking points as of July 2026, the business and AI position, and how to read the stock.

Board and community talking points

FRONTEO's board text is not directly fetchable, so the themes below summarize press coverage and observed posts as of July 2026.

  • Disappointment at the down guidance. The dominant theme is that, against a strong FY3/2026 print, FY3/2027 guidance calls for lower revenue and profit — framed by the company as a structural transition plus growth investment, but drawing disappointment.
  • Balance-sheet and financing anxiety — the most specific concern. One observed board post argues that current assets (about ¥3.8 billion) fall below current liabilities (about ¥4.1 billion), that interest-bearing debt is about ¥4.0 billion into a rate-hike backdrop, and that ordinary profit this term is only about ¥250 million (these figures are a poster's and are indicative). Analysts likewise flag a declining equity ratio and rising interest-bearing debt.
  • Life-Science AI as the upside. Meanwhile, the AI drug-discovery and medical Life-Science AI business grew +191.4% year on year, which some cite as the bull case. These are observed views, not our recommendation.

The business and the AI/semiconductor cycle

FRONTEO (2158) trades on the TSE Growth market, listed in June 2007, and was renamed from UBIC, Inc. to FRONTEO in July 2016. Its proprietary AI engine KIBIT (natural-language and behavioral-informatics analysis) anchors legal tech and e-discovery, communication analysis, patent search, economic-security AI, and AI drug discovery and medical work. With revenue of ¥7.6 billion it is a small-cap — a different scale from the large IT majors.

FY3/2026 (results May 15, 2026) delivered revenue of ¥7.64 billion (+25.3%) and operating profit of ¥739 million (+40.1%) — rising revenue and profit. Life-Science AI grew +191.4%, and DX-related revenue grew +598.9% on the Arunetsu acquisition. But FY3/2027 guidance is for lower revenue and profit, which the company attributes to a structural transition and growth investment. On the balance sheet, analysts flag a declining equity ratio across roughly the past twelve quarters and rising interest-bearing debt — the boards' biggest worry.

How to read the stock

FRONTEO has done no stock split, so the prices below are continuous. The stock fell from a one-year high of ¥1,069 on September 26, 2025, through the first half of 2026 to a year-to-date low of ¥543 on June 11, then rebounded — ¥617 on July 9, ¥660 on July 15, and ¥627 on July 17 (down 2.3% that day) — showing a bounce even during the July AI/semiconductor correction.

Bulls point to genuine proprietary NLP (KIBIT), the fast-growing Life-Science AI (+191%), the economic-security-AI tailwind, and a small float. Bears point to the down guidance for next year, thin margins, a weak equity ratio, negative working capital and rising debt into rate hikes, and the acquisition-driven (Arunetsu) quality of growth. Note that as of July 2026 the company carries no supervisory or delisting designation — the financial fragility is a theme, not a designation. This page sets no price target. Q1 FY3/2027 results are expected in early August 2026 (confirm the date on company IR).
