Entrepreneur Bohdan Andriienko Lost Up to $300,000 Due to COVID and Went to Fight
Kyiv entrepreneur Bohdan Andriienko, with the call sign "Bar," lost about $200,000 to $300,000 during the COVID-19 pandemic but managed to keep part of his business. After the start of the full-scale invasion, he sold his share, secured a financial cushion for his family, and went to the army. Andriienko developed a network of partner stores for mobile operators, managing seven retail outlets in Kyiv and other cities in Ukraine. Opening one store cost about $20,000 to $25,000. During the pandemic, customer traffic sharply decreased while expenses remained, leading to the closure of about 30% of retail outlets. Stores in major cities and locations dependent on tourist traffic were particularly affected. Andriienko estimated the company's losses at $200,000 to $300,000. The financial cushion helped preserve the most profitable stores. After February 24, 2022, he decided to leave the business, evacuated his family from Kyiv, and went to fight, handing over management to partners. He started his service as a soldier and now holds the position of deputy battalion commander. After the war, Andriienko plans to return to business, considering logistics and intermediary transportation.
