Andy Burnham Elected Labour Party Leader, Set to Become Prime Minister

On July 17, the UK Labour Party announced at a special conference that Andy Burnham has been elected as the party leader and will succeed Keir Starmer as Prime Minister after being appointed by King Charles III. Starmer will submit his resignation to the King on the 20th, after which Burnham will accept the appointment and officially take office as Prime Minister. The 56-year-old Burnham previously served as the Mayor of Greater Manchester. In the Labour Party leadership election, Burnham received the support of the majority of Labour MPs, becoming the only official candidate.
